What Makes Touchable & Bouncy Bubbles Work?

Blow gently down through the tube to form a perfect bubble — ready to bounce or catch!

1. The Bubble Sandwich!

Every bubble is a stretchy sandwich made of soap–water–soap. This delicate film traps air inside, thanks to something called surface tension. Soap weakens the water’s grip just

enough to let it stretch and flex into a bubble without bursting straight away.

To make these bubbles super strong, we add clever ingredients like xanthan gum (included in your kit!). This special powder slows down how quickly the water evaporates and makes the bubble film much more elastic — perfect for creating bubbles you can catch and bounce!

2. Keeping Bubbles Alive for Longer

Bubbles usually pop because their water disappears into the air (especially on warm or windy days). That’s why we include a pH adjuster (baking powder) and bubble-strengthening agents in our kit — they work together to slow evaporation and give you more time to play.

You’ll notice: stronger solution = longer-lasting bubbles. That’s when the real bubble tricks begin!

3. Bounce Them? Yes, You Can!

Normally, bubbles pop when they touch skin because of oils, dust, and

rough surfaces. But our magic gloves act like a soft landing pad — they protect the bubble and let you catch it, balance it, even bounce it!

The gloves reduce friction and stop anything nasty from breaking the bubble’s delicate surface. Clean, dry, and magical — they’re a bubble’s best friend!

This kit provides everything you need (except washing-up liquid and water) to make up to 50 litres of high-performance bubble solution. Just follow the simple instructions below.

Science in Action

The secret to our giant bubbles? Polymers! These long-chain molecules add mechanical strength and stretchiness to the soap film. When you form a bubble, the polymers begin to uncoil and link together, allowing the bubble to grow far larger than ordinary soap and water would allow — without bursting!

How to Make 2 Litres of Bubble Juice:

1. Measure 3.5 ml (or 3.5 g) of Bubble Polymer Powder (using the 1 ml + 2.5 ml spoons) into a clean bucket.

2. Measure out 125 ml of Fairy Liquid Original and stir thoroughly until the polymer is uniformly mixed.

3. Top up with 1875 ml of water to make up to 2 litres.

4. Skim off any foam and allow the solution to rest.

Top Tip: Your solution improves with time! For best results, leave it to rest overnight before use — your bubbles will be even bigger and better!

Cleanliness Counts

The bubble mix contains natural polymers, which are biodegradable but less resistant to contamination, making it especially important to keep all equipment clean when mixing and storing your solution. To keep your bubble juice in the best condition:

• Sterilise all utensils and containers before use, especially if you’re storing the mix.

• Use clean wands and avoid dipping dirty ones back into your main supply.

• Store your solution in a clean, airtight container. When stored properly, it should last for up to 2 weeks.

Don’t pour used bubble juice back into the container!
‘Used’ juice can become contaminated by dirty hands, spores, dust, or pollen — especially as little ones often touch the ground with their bubble wands. Each dip can introduce unwanted microbes and spoil your mix.

Science Note: The Power of Polymers

Polymers are the stretchy superheroes of our bubble mix. At first, the molecules are tightly coiled like springs. When you blow a bubble, the film stretches and the polymers unwind, linking together and reinforcing the structure — allowing bubbles to grow to massive sizes without popping.

Time to Unwind

After mixing, polymers need time to fully hydrate and relax. Leaving the solution to rest for at least a couple of hours — preferably overnight — gives the polymers time to stretch out and do their job. This results in a stronger, more stable bubble solution.

A Note on Natural Polymers

This mix uses natural polymers, which are more eco-friendly and biodegradable than synthetic ones like polyethylene oxide (PEO). However, they are also more prone to biological degradation — that is, breaking down when exposed to bacteria or mould. That’s why clean equipment and proper storage are essential for bubble success!

Bubbles hold many wonders and create lots of excitement, and investigating the science methods behind the creation of different bubble solutions is sure to fascinate young minds and help them think like a scientist.

All of our STEAM ACADEMY workshops are designed to not only motivate and fire the spirit of discovery with our children but also ignite curiosity in their minds.

Each child leaves with a tub of bubbles, their own tri-string bubble wand, a sachet of giant bubble polymer and pH adjuste to make 2 L of bubble solutions which will allow them to make amazing bubbles with the rest of their family and friends!

Safety: It is recommended that all young children should wear safety goggles when playing with bubbles to prevent any soap splashes going into their eyes.

What to do:

Eyes:  Rinse eyes with lukewarm water with one of the following methods:

• Pour a gentle stream of water from a jug or clean teapot over the eye from the inside corner by the nose, across the eye, flowing out towards the ear.
• Eye may be irrigated in the shower if this can be accomplished without delay.
• Young children may be wrapped like a mummy in a towel with arms at side and held over sink or tub or laid on counter during flushing.
